.
Process
- The perennial wild forest castor plant, which blooms from July to March, produces wild castor seeds only once a year.
- The wild castor seeds are gathered, sun-dried, and hand-pounded until the shell is broken.
- The interior pulp is next manually hammered and stone ground. The castor paste is cooked in hot water the following morning as the sun rises.
- Our ancestors always prepared oil in this manner. They thought that the oil was given life and vitality by the first sunbeams.
- When the ground beans are boiling, we collect the oil that floats to the top and set it aside for a day.
- This procedure is carried out repeatedly until the oil has been completely dried out.
Uses Of Castor Oil In Ayurveda
For its potential to treat conditions like alopecia, wrinkles, ovarian cysts, constipation, piles, asthma, and arthritis, to name a few, castor oil is hailed as a master in Ayurvedic medicine. The abundance of natural compounds in castor oil confer healing health benefits that are widely used in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine. It is known as Gandharvahasta or Eranda taila in Ayurveda.
According to Ayurveda, castor oil has flavours that are sweet, sour, and astringent. As soon as it is applied externally, the body cools. While the astringent and pungent qualities cleanse the body of salts and toxins, the sweetness provides nourishment. The cooling quality helps to lessen skin irritants like prickly heat and pita.
Castor oil, also known as Eranda Tailam in Ayurveda, is blessed with Tikta (i.e., bitter taste), Madhura Rasa (i.e., sweet taste), and five powerful Gunas or qualities, including Guru (i.e., heavy), Ushna (i.e., hot), Sara (i.e., flowing), Balyam (i.e., strength-promoting qualities), and Visram Gunas (i. It depicts Ushna Virya (hot potency) and Katu Vipaka (pungent metabolic taste) inherently. It balances the Vata (air) and Kapha (earth and water) doshas because it is heavy and oily, but too much of it can aggravate the Pitta (fire and air) doshas.
Eranda taila benefits the body's various Dhatus (or tissues), including Rasa (or plasma), Rakta (or blood), Mamsa (or muscles), Asthi (i.e. Bones) and Shukra (i.e. Reproductive Fluids) due to its inherent qualities and doshas.
Note: Pregnant women should not take it before consulting with a doctor to induce labor as castor oil falls into the X category list.
