Oil Bath - A Deepavali Tradition!
It is known to keep the immunity up, Vata down and skin well nourished for the winter.
Deepavali or the festival of lights, is one of the most celebrated festivals across India. Celebrations begin before dawn with the ritualistic Sesame Oil bath. The Sesame Oil bath, also called Abhyanga Snana in Ayurveda is a very special ceremony for health and prosperity that is widely practiced even today. The most important benefit of having a Sesame Oil bath during Deepavali is to avoid the hot flashes and chills that occur during seasonal changes (when the temperature of your body does not balance with the outside environment) and to ensure our body is fully prepared for the oncoming new season.
Abhyanga Snana:
The Sesame Oil bath has two key parts:
- The Abhynaga part, which is the self-massage from head to toe with Sesame Oil.
- The Snana Part, a bath to wash off the excess oil from the body with a herb bath powder.
In order to facilitate the deep penetration of the oil, it is usually warmed before use and applied with vigorous massage stokes, till the skin is well saturated with oil.
At Svastya, we have a unique Cold Pressed BLACK SESAME OIL as well as a completely natural, HERBAL HAIRWASH POWDER that will help maximize your benefits. A proper Ayurvedic Abhyanga Snana (oil bath) using our specially created oils and powders is the most incredible health habit!
